DISTRICT M: A Marina Central Festival

DISTRICT M is back with yet another diverse and exciting lineup of live performances by homegrown and international artists, and even more fine fresh fringe activities!

The encore district-wide festival on 4 & 5 October promises a crescendo this year, in conjunction with Singapore Design Week. Explore all four zones, each one promising good music of varied genres, and engaging encounters — including digital painting, blackout poetry, a mass chess meet and life-sized chess, a community moss frame mural and plenty more!

Here’s what to look forward to at South Beach!

4 October 2024 (Friday)

Alicia DC

Performing on 4 October, 6.30pm – 7.15pm

Alicia Diva Chandra is a composer, singer-songwriter and producer who loves to experiment with new styles in her music. Often inspired by bossa nova, experimental electronic music and a bit of pop and R&B, Alicia finds comfort in combining elements from the music she listens to into her own music.

Khally

Performing on 4 October, 7.45pm – 8.30pm
Fountain Stage at South Beach Fountain Plaza

Khally is an up-and-coming Singaporean R&B/neo-soul singer-songwriter, an upstart in the Singaporean music landscape. With a voice unlike any other, Khally’s ruminative lyrics and soulful delivery not only showcases her individuality as an artist, but draws her audience into pensive experiences of love and life. Also a DJ, Khally creates a hypnotic fusion of live vocals and beats that transport listeners through a world of rhythmic enchantment.

DJ Shingo Takahashi

Performing on 4 October, 9pm – 9.45pm
Fountain Stage at South Beach Fountain Plaza

DJ Shingo Takahashi is a regular DJ at Aoyama Hachi and Shibuya Club BALL, two of Tokyo’s most established clubs. Mixing strictly on 45s, he freely mixes soul, funk, reggae and more. In 2015, he started Bee’s Knees Records and still continues to release new works to this day.

Outside of mixing, DJ Shingo Takahashi is also the organiser of Bridge Party in Tokyo’s metropolitan parks, as a part of efforts to revitalise local community spaces.

5 October 2024 (Saturday)

Miss Lou

Performing on 5 October, 5.30pm – 6.15pm

Miss Lou, also known as Lou Peixin, is Singapore’s Glamour Vintage Songbird, blending vintage vocal styles with modern themes. Her music, influenced by doo-wop, swing, and soul, explores topics like body confidence and independence.

She won the Noise Music Mentorship Award in 2016 and released her debut EP, Glamour Vintage Songbird, which charted on iTunes in Singapore, Indonesia, and Vietnam.

Miss Lou co-founded Loudanclear, a creative collective managing her career and producing events. She also mentors others, giving talks on career development and bridging cultures through her music.

NyaLi

Performing on 5 October, 6.45pm – 7.30pm

NyaLi, with over two decades of stage experience and a five-octave vocal range, is highly sought after for her versatility as a singer and voice coach. She has performed at major festivals in Singapore and internationally, earning critical acclaim. NyaLi has also supported icons like Andrea Bocelli, Kristin Chenoweth, and Jacob Collier on prestigious stages, including Carnegie Hall. Her event clients include global brands like BMW, Google, Microsoft, Lululemon, Citibank, and Prudential Singapore, as well as notable local organizations like Singapore Tourism Board and Timbre Music Group.

vanako

Performing on 5 October, 8pm – 8.45pm

Indonesian-born, Singapore-based 21-year-old Vanako is an independent singer-songwriter blending pop, jazz, and orchestral influences. Known for her sincerity, her songs explore themes of personal growth and relationships. Vanako’s recent releases, this, ily, and If Tomorrow Doesn’t Exist, have gained 70,000 streams on Spotify. Her magnetic charm shines through live performances at events like Spark The Change Fest 2023 and Beerfest Asia 2023. As she transitions into adulthood, Vanako hopes her music continues to offer comfort and joy to her listeners.
